There are several factors to consider before you buy. As an active living advocate, two of the most important factors for me are the community and what kind of activities are available in that community. That’s why Gig Harbor is a go-to for me. Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast, a foodie, or someone who loves to try new things, Gig Harbor has got it all. Welcome to the community!
Do you love learning about what shaped the world around you? Then stroll over to the Harbor History Museum! Sice it was established in 1976, the museum has been sticking strong to its mission of empowering the community with knowledge, educational programs, and one-of-a-kind exhibits.

A few of these unique features include an “1893 fully restored one-room schoolhouse,” the restoration of “a 65-foot fishing vessel currently under restoration… and a 900-square foot library, research, and meeting room.” If you love history and public establishments that empower your community like I do, then the Harbor History Museum will scratch you right where you itch.
There’s nothing like a nice trek through nature to reset your day. That’s why when life gets overwhelming for me, I head over to Cushman Trail, one of my self-care staples.

The 6.2-mile trail is paved and diligently sustained, making it an ideal destination for both hiking and bicycling enthusiasts. Cushman Trail offers the best of both worlds, weaving through lush green forest for that out-in-the-woods feel while also offering visitors amenities like bathrooms and water fountains. Whether you’re looking for a quick family-friendly getaway or if you’re in dire need of some me-time, then Cushman Trail is the go-to for you!
One of my favorite facets of growing up in the PNW is the never-ending list of outdoor activities. And the best part is most of them are FREE! If Cushman Trail wasn’t rural enough for you, then head over to McCormick Forest Park.

Boasting 122 acres of untouched wilderness, get your hike on with more than 3 miles of trails that offer up to 200 feet of elevation gain. The park also features old-growth forests and a plethora of wildlife to see. McCormick Forest Park also provides outdoorsmen and women a dog park, so your furry friend can come too! When I feel like living on the wilder side, McCormick Forest Park is at the top of my list!
On especially stressful days, I love to unwind in a great atmosphere with a nice glass of locally crafted whiskey. And one of my all-time favorite spots to enjoy a cocktail is Heritage Distillery Co. Although this distillery has grown into 5 different locations, the original concept and tasting room is right here in Gig Harbor.

I just love the story of this distillery, as it was conceived around a campfire by four friends: a chemical engineer with a background in law, a former education professional, and two military officers. After over a decade of its founding in 2011, HDC is recognized as one of the best of its kind in the country. It is also primarily owned by women. And it gets even better! HDC is a strong advocate for a strong community, donating to “various charities and non-profit groups across the Pacific Northwest” and the nation. So, when you sit down at HDC, you’re not just enjoying a carefully crafted cocktail, you’re helping craft your community. Cheers!
After a long day of history museums, hiking, and a nicely crafted nightcap, make sure to turn in early for a good night’s sleep. You’re not going to want to miss this next stop.

Containing over 71 acres of stunning scenic coastline, Sunrise Beach Park definitely lives up to its name. Featuring wondrous woodlands and gorgeous views of the great Puget Sound, it doesn’t get more Washington than this! Personally, I’m up at the break of dawn. So, when I am looking to get my day started right, I head over to this breathtaking stretch of the Cascadia Marine Trail System. If you had one too many whiskeys the night before (it happens to the best of us), then a good ole’ sunrise is just what the doctor ordered.
